Set in an 18th-century coaching inn on the site of an ancient Roman bath, this low-key pub with rooms is 12 minutes' walk from York train station.

The simple rooms feature en suite bathrooms, TVs and tea and coffeemaking equipment.

There's a Roman-themed pub with a beer garden offering traditional bar fare, real ales and a Sunday roast, plus frequent live music. A permanent exhibit features the ruins of a Roman bath from AD 71. Parking is free.
