Hotels, Taverns, Bars and Pubs in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom
Publocation UK is a work in progress. So far we've listed pubs in London and across much of England, and we're adding the rest of the United Kingdom county by county. So if you don't see a pub we should get to it soon. Cheers, Team Publocation.
Hertfordshire's beer story runs through its malt. For generations Ware's maltings were a chief supplier to London's brewers, and the town's inns once housed the Great Bed of Ware, recorded at the White Hart in 1596 and name-checked in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. In St Albans, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks occupies an octagonal former pigeon house moved from near the abbey after 1539; Guinness once listed it as England's oldest pub but withdrew the entry in 2000. CAMRA is headquartered in the city, and McMullen's has brewed in Hertford since 1827.
